Department Description
Purpose:
The Department of Protection Services seeks to appoint an Assistant Locksmith to perform skilled locksmith work in the repair, alteration, installation, and keying of locks on buildings and equipment on all University property, including cutting and issuing keys, utilizing a computerized key register and following predefined processes and procedures to ensure the safe keeping of keys in his/her custody.
Brief Description
Key responsibilities include the following:
Install, repair, and maintain locking systems (e.g. doors, door hardware, change lock combinations, security bolt lockers, and magnetic keying systems) to ensure the safety of facilities.
Open locked Offices, cabinets, safes, etc. following predefined procedures.
Ensure all keys have serial numbers for identification purposes.
Prepare documentation in written or electronic formats for Job cards, daily paperwork, requisitions, and stock control
Ensure accurate written records are kept of all works carried out.
Maintain tools and equipment in good and safe condition.
Collect stock from suppliers.
Respond to emergency situations where the locksmiths’ skills are required during and after hours for the purpose

Detailed Description
Job Requirements
Requirements:
• Matric and good track record in the security and locksmith industry.
• Three years experience as a locksmith in the commercial, industrial or facilities setting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Drivers license (Code B or Higher)
• Basic computer skills (Email, Excel, MS Word)
• Registered with PSIRA. As a locksmith and passed the locksmiths Skills Programme
